Beaches and excursion destinations

A small selection of beaches and bays on Curacao

The island has dozens of bays to offer: both public and private. But it's best to explore the bays and beaches yourself, as this is the only way to see the many facets of the island.

Playa Kenepa

In our opinion, both are some of the most beautiful bays on Curacao. The locals are heavily represented here, especially on the weekends. You can rent loungers for little money and the view of Grote Knip from the parking lot is an extremely popular photo opportunity. In the small Knip we repeatedly encountered a turtle in the water.

Playa Cas Abao

White beach, crystal clear water, palm trees and palapas. A Caribbean beach as you imagine it. This beach is privately managed. A small entrance fee has to be paid here, but the beach also offers showers, a bar and a restaurant. The reef right on the beach is beautiful for snorkeling and diving.

Playa Grandi

Located in the far west in Westpunt, this fishing bay is worth a trip. Here, early in the morning, the small fishing boats go out to sea to fish in the traditional way. Here you can buy freshly caught fish directly from the boat. You can also meet turtles right behind the fisherman's cottage. They like to stay there permanently because of the fishing.

National Parks

Curacao doesn't just have beaches and bays or the famous liqueur to offer.
The two national parks show you completely different facets

Christoffel National Park

The Christoffel National Park is located in the western part of the island. It has abundant flora and fauna. Guided tours can be taken here, but you can also take a look at the various points in the park in your own car. A highlight in the park is the Christoffelberg. At 375m high, it is the highest point on Curacao. If the weather is very good, you can even see as far as Willemstadt. It can be hiked to the top.

Shete Boca Nationalpark

The Shete Boca National Park is on the northern side of the island. A lot of lava rock has formed into cliffs here. The rough side of the island shows the force of waves as they crash against the cliffs. Here you can forget about time while watching the roaring water. Hiking trails lead to various cliff shapes. Be it a natural bridge, the so-called Boka Pistol, a hole through which the waves shoot upwards, or a spawning place for turtles.

More Attractions

Here is a small selection of other sights on Curacao.

Floating Queen Emma Bridge
and Handelskade

In Willemstadt, the Queen Emma Bridge connects the two districts of Punda and Ottobrande. It leads over the confluence with Schottegat. The bridge is powered by small diesel engines and is moved to the side when necessary to allow large ships to enter. The Handelskade in Punda offers an absolutely colorful picture. It is one of the classic motifs for Curacao and Willemstadt.

Rif Fort in Willemstadt

The Rif Fort in Ottobranda was built in the 19th century and, with its historical and artistic atmosphere, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Marshe Bieu

The Marshe Bieu, or old market, is a market hall where Creole cuisine is offered. Here tourists eat just like locals. So if you would like to try the local Creole cuisine, this is absolutely the right place for you. The portions are decent and very tasty. Price performance is absolutely right here.

Floating market

You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables at the floating market. The traders come with their boats about 60 km from Venezuela to offer their fresh goods. The fruit and vegetables are sold directly from the boat

Salt flats with Flamingo Point

In the former salt flats you can watch wild flamingos moving in flocks on the water.
